History

By founding the first online shop for a discount supermarket chain in 2001, the Tengelmann corporate group assumed a pioneering role within the e-commerce sector. In 2010, the Tengelmann corporate group went one step further by further developing the e-commerce activities of the entire group. This resulted in the founding of Tengelmann E-Commerce GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of the corporate group whose role is the pooling of all business areas related to the topic of e-commerce.

Since 2009, the Tengelmann Group’s e-commerce strategy has involved investing in fast-growing, innovative e-commerce and internet companies. Indeed, since late 2009 Tengelmann-Ventures GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of the Tegelmann Group, has acquired shares in young, dynamic companies under the motto “Funding your ideas”. Today, the company is already among the most important start-up companies in Germany. The focus of these investments is on e-commerce and social commerce concepts, market places, as well as on internet and web 2.0 technologies. Moreover, Tengelmann-Ventures GmbH not only offers financing expertise for start-ups, but also and management know-how and a useful infrastructure.
